Music in the Austrian Empire

Music in the Austrian Empire is an honors class I took in spring 2023 semester. In this class, we learned about the music that was written during the time that the Austrian Empire was in power. This included analyzing different famous pieces and composers, as well as the social and political context that drove them to write these pieces as well. To further our learning, the whole class went to Budapest and Vienna over spring break to experience and learn about the culture of what this class was about. In Budapest, we saw the National Hungarian Museum, several different monuments, the opera Carmen at the Hungarian Opera House, the Liszt Museum, St. Stephen's Basilica, and many more. And in Vienna, we say Haydn's and Mozart's houses, the Schönbrunn palace, the National Library, and several other museums. I learned a lot about the culture, music, and history from this class, especially from the trip that we took. Below are pictures from our time in Vienna and views of both cities.
