Tales of Resilience
This honor’s experience has really impacted me and helped me grow as a Global Citizen Scholar. In this campaign, a lot happened to my character, party, and by extension me. This was my first experience creating a character, and I found that though I created from parts of myself, she also became someone separate from me as I was playing her. There were a lot of key moments that impacted my character and me. One was at the very beginning; I created my character to go into this campaign with a plan of who she would be able to connect with and how it would go. However, none of it turned out the way she expected. She connected with people she thought wouldn’t accept her and didn’t connect with the people she thought would. However, it turned out better than the plan she created would have. This made me realize that my own plans I create won’t usually go how I expect them, but if I’m open to the change then it can turn out even better than I originally thought and planned for.

Another of the key moments that happened throughout the campaign was the realization that the world that my character lived in was very corrupt and broken on multiple and complex levels, much like our world. Because of the brokenness of the world, she went through quite a bit of hardship as well. However, despite the brokenness and even the hopelessness of her situation, because it was too big for her to fix and heal, she was able to find joy and happiness. Most of that came through the small moments with the friends she made. From having a cup of coffee in the morning with her friends to having a sleepover in one of their dorms, she found that the smallest moments were the most important ones. This made me realize that I shouldn’t let the bad that happens in my life keep me from experiencing and appreciating the good, and those small moments of joy are vital.
There were many other moments that helped me grow as a person that I will take with me throughout my life. For both me and my character, this was an adventure of a lifetime that I'm so grateful to have experienced.
